After what the coach called a sloppy start, the Oak Ridge Wildcats became more focused in the second half and opened up a wide lead over the Halls Red Devils on Friday, finishing with a 37-6 victory.
The Wildcats (2-1, 2-0 District 3-AAA) scored first on a 51-yard pass play from quarterback Jaylin Henderson to junior wide receiver Jiminquas Johnson halfway through the first quarter at Dink Adams Field in Halls.
Halls (0-3, 0-1) quickly answered with a touchdown of their own, but Oak Ridge blocked the extra point and freshman Tee Higgins returned the following kickoff for a touchdown, making the score 14-6 at halftime.
Early in the second half, Oak Ridge widened the lead on a 56-yard pass play to junior running back Michael Rowe, putting the Wildcats up 21-6.
Oak Ridge did not allow the Red Devils to score in the second half, and the Wildcats added a third quarter safety and fourth quarter touchdown runs of 23 yards by sophomore running back Isiah Jones and 10 yards by junior running back Jaleel Luster.
