James Allen Hodges

James Allen Hodges, “Partner,” age 82, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He worked at the Oak Ridge Hospital in the ’60s and 70s in the housekeeping department and also worked for ORAU as a janitor until his retirement. He was born to the late Sam and Fannie Pitchford Hodges in Lexington, Miss., on Jan. 1, 1931.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette Redmond, Sally Berry, Nancy Hodges, Eula Mae Horton, and Pearl Pitchford; and brothers, Lemon Hodges, Aker Hodges, Floyd Hodges, William Hodges, and Jimmy Hodges.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosie Lee Torry Hodges; sister-in-law, Lillie Mae McCullough; children, Pearl (Charles) Robinson, Hattie (Willie) Cook, Willie (Kathy) Hodges, Eula (Clem) Mitchell, and Joe (Kathy) Hodges; grandchildren, Yolanda Mitchell, Dywane Robinson, Clemmie Mitchell Jr., Nyaitiyo Cook, Brian Cook, Dywane Cook, Makysha (Jermaine) Robinson, Renee (Tim) Pettitt, Cedric Robinson, Sheena Hodges, Mansa Mitchell, Akousa Cook, and Khalid Cook. He had 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special nephew, Sonny (Mary) Johnson, and special granddaughters, Yolanda and Renee.

His special friends include Betty Caswell, Dot Jones, Mary Child, Denise Henderson, Mrs. Elizabeth Foster, Robert Davis, Jim Ropers, Elsie Cox, Gloria Batiste Anderson, and Kattie Harris.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching baseball, basketball, and football. He loved family gatherings. He was a member of Highland View Church of Christ.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, from 1–2 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with Brother Eddie Payne officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
