Babcock and Wilcox recently announced the winners of the 2013 B&W Scholarship, and one recipient is the daughter of an engineer at the Y-12 National Security Complex.

Sheri Cunningham is a Bearden High School graduate and the daughter of B&W Y-12 engineer Penny Cunningham. She will receive $1,500 per year for up to four years of college-level study.

Scholarships were awarded based on academic achievement, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) scores, financial need, and the relevance of the student’s course of study to the company’s business, a press release said.

Cunningham’s application was one of more than 100 received and reviewed by a committee of B&W employees.

“Filling out the application and writing the essay helped reinforce that I want to study international business and finance. It was a rewarding process,” said Cunningham, who will attend the University of South Carolina this fall.
