Henrietta Philpot Knapp

Henrietta Philpot Knapp, age 77, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, Sept. 1, at her home.

She was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Kayjay, Ky., the daughter of Delbert and Naomi Carter Philpot.

Mrs. Knapp graduated from Carson Newman College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She retired in 2001 from the Roane County school system, where she was a school teacher.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, the Tennessee Education Association, and the National Teachers Association. Mrs. Knapp enjoyed keeping mementos of her students and teaching years and reminiscing of special times.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Edward A. Knapp, in 1986.

She is survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews, including Mack McGuffin, Richard McGuffin, Kathleen Davis, Audrey Farrell, Shelby Stanfield, and Gene Hampton. She is also survived by her uncle, Alex Carter, who was her caretaker.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 12 p.m. with Dr. Tim Borchert officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
