Roane State Community College’s online biology courses have been named among the country’s best by BestOnlineColleges.org.

According to information on BestOnlineColleges.org, the site’s 2013-14 listing of best online programs takes into account “student surveys, teacher surveys, expert analysis, cost, academic offerings, career services rankings, and availability.”

This fall, Roane State is offering General Biology I, Human Anatomy and Physiology I, and Human Anatomy and Physiology II as Web classes. Additional biology subjects are available through Roane State’s participation in the Regents Online Campus Collaborative, a statewide network that offers online educational programs and courses.

Roane State also offers biology courses through live interactive video, which allows students to take a course at the campus closest to them. Rather than drive to the campus where the class is offered, students can take the course via video teleconferencing and stay close to home. Roane State has campuses in Crossville, Harriman, Huntsville, Jamestown, Knoxville, LaFollette, Lenoir City, Oak Ridge, and Wartburg.

“Roane State continues to be a leader in distance education,” said Diane Ward, vice president for student learning. “Our biology faculty have done an outstanding job of providing rigorous online instruction, and the college’s commitment to the Regents Online Campus Collaborative and to interactive classes gives our students a variety of ways to complete courses close to home and in a way that fits their busy schedules.”

Roane State is a two-year college providing transfer curricula, career-preparation programs and continuing education. For more information, visit www.roanestate.edu or call 1-866-GO2-RSCC (1-866-462-7722).

Tennessee’s Community Colleges is a system of 13 colleges offering a high-quality, affordable, convenient and personal education to prepare students to achieve their educational and career goals in two years or less. All colleges in the system offer associate degree and certificate programs, workforce development programs and transfer pathways to four-year degrees.
