Five-county Alzheimer’s Walk coming to Oak Ridge

Posted at 4:30 pm August 16, 2013
By Oak Ridge Today Staff Leave a Comment

The five-county Alzheimer’s Tennessee Walk will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Oak Ridge Civic Center.

Participants will include volunteers and donors from Anderson, Campbell, Morgan, Roane, and Scott counties to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease and honor those who have lost their battle with it. Registration opens at 9 a.m. on the 14th, with opening ceremonies, door prizes, and pre-walk contests on the schedule for 10 a.m. and the ribbon-cutting and walk at 11 a.m.

There will be live music, food, and fun for everyone in the family, including pets. The walk itself is a mile-and-a-half long and is optional.

Teams are encouraged to sign up before the pre-registration deadline of Sept. 3 by visiting www.alztennessee.org.

Most donations to Alzheimer’s Tennessee are secured prior to the walk and turned in on or before the day of the walk. Pre-registered walkers who raise at least $50 will qualify for a free T-shirt, and individuals and teams may continue turning in funds for 30 days after the event.

Final fundraising totals will determine top prize winners, who will be recognized during an appreciation luncheon. All money raised will help support Alzheimer’s research and provide support to Tennesseeans with Alzheimer’s and their families.
