Monroe Seiber, age 81, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday, July 16, at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
Monroe was born Aug. 26, 1931, in the New River Community of Anderson County. He has lived in Oliver Springs since 1944.
He retired from Rust Engineering, Construction Division, in 1993. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and digging ginseng.
Mr. Seiber was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Oshie Taylor Seiber; by three sisters, Mary Ola West, Ellen York, and Sylverdie Love; and by a brother, Ralph Seiber.
Monroe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Sexton Seiber of Oliver Springs, by a daughter, Frances Seavers and husband Fred of the Corbin Hill Community in Morgan County; by sons, Edward Seiber and wife Peggy of Nicholsville, Va., and Darryl Seiber and wife Sandra of Maryville; by four grandchildren, Freddie Seavers, Brian Seiber, Angela McKamey, and Amy Seiber; and by two great-grandchildren, Haley Nicole Cheatham and Devin Lynn Cheatham.
He is also survived by a brother, Leroy Seiber of Dobson, N.C.; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of special friends.
The family received friends Thursday, July 18, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Garvan Walls and Edward Seiber officiating. Burial and graveside services were held Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
