Carol Joan Rogers Sloat

Carol Joan Rogers Sloat, age 67, a resident of Harriman, passed away Tuesday, July 16, at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Sloat was born Sept. 17, 1945, in Chattanooga. She lived in Kansas, Clinton, Oak Ridge, and Harriman.

Carol was employed as the manager at Oliver’s Restaurant and Catering in Oak Ridge for 25 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, cooking, and canning.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge; however, she attended Community Baptist Church in Oliver Springs.

Mrs. Sloat was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Carrie Jackson Rogers; by her husband, James Jones; and by a brother, Lincoln Rogers.

She is survived by four sisters, Carla Gant and husband Jerry of Sardis, Miss., Catherine Blalock of Knoxville, Karen Griffin and husband Don of Harriman, and Mary Stewart and husband Earl of Oakdale; by two brothers, Paul Rogers and wife Betty of Clinton, and David Rogers and wife Janet of Coalfield; and by a sister-in-law, Gail Rogers of Holly Springs, Miss.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Alex Lambert, Renee Mell, Jonathan Blalock, Emily Blalock, Bridgett Russell, Douglas Rogers, Amy Nelson, Beverly Robbins, Kimberly Jones, Jason Rogers, and Kevin Rogers; by nine great-nieces and nephews; and by a host of special friends including, Larry and Cathy Garner, Alvin Ward, Destiny Ward, and Beulah Wilson.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 21, from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at the Covenant Life Church in Lake City. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Tony McAfee officiating.
