Willie Ruth (Wid) Parten

Willie Ruth (Wid) Parten, age 85, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, June 27, at NHC in Oak Ridge.

Miss Parten was born Sept. 12, 1927, in Knox County. She has lived in Oliver Springs since 1929.

Willie Ruth was a member of the Oliver Springs First Baptist Church. Before her retirement, she was employed as a bookkeeper at several area automobile dealerships.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Stirl Parten Sr. and Martha Jane Gibson Parten; by a brother, Joseph S. Parten Jr.; and by sisters, Sally Byrd Parten and Margarette Roberts.

Miss Parten is survived by sisters, Marion Parten Stubbs of Knoxville and Maud Fox and husband Clyde of Oliver Springs; by a sister-in-law, Myra Parten of Claxton; and by nieces and nephews and their children whom she loved dearly, Rebecca and Michael Schaaf of Atlanta, Ga., Martha and Rick Gallman of Huntsville, Ala., Dr. Gary Fox of Clinton, Laura and Joe Roberts of Clinton, Sandra and Dr. John Jernigan of Oak Ridge, Steve Parten of Claxton, and Anna Marie and Danny Hatfield of Claxton.

She is also survived by a host of special friends, including Evelyn Buchanan, Anne McAlister, Faye Yakel, Mack Cole, and Jenny Moles.

The family received friends Saturday, June 29, between 1 and 2 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral followed at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Larry Duke and Rev. Dean Buchanan officiating. Graveside services and burial followed at Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville.
