The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Restoration Services Inc. of Oak Ridge as Subcontractor of the Year in Region IV, which includes eight southeastern states.

RSI was recognized for its hard work, innovative ideas, and dedication to the community, a press release said.

“The SBA is pleased to recognize your achievements and your role in driving our nation’s economic growth,” said John Shoraka of the SBA Office of Government Contracting and Business Development. The SBA announced regional awards as they prepared to celebrate the 50th anniversary of National Small Business Week from June 17-21.

The SBA Region IV includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The press release said RSI was nominated for the Subcontractor of the Year by UCOR, a partnership between URS and CH2M Oak Ridge LLC. It said RSI is an integrated team subcontractor to UCOR and supports the U.S. Department of Energy’s Environmental Management cleanup mission in Oak Ridge.

“Their implementation of an integrated characterization approach saved UCOR $1.3 million in Fiscal Year 2012 and $2 million in FY 2013,” the release said. “They continue to have an outstanding safety record with much of their work in high-hazard settings.”

The press release said RSI places a high value on “giving back to the local communities where their staff works and lives. Their charitable contributions focus on local organizations and their employee-base outreach offers targeted support and scholarships.”

As part of the company’s commitment with UCOR to DOE’s Asset Revitalization Initiative, RSI installed a 200 kilowatt solar farm at the East Tennessee Technology Park on land purchased from the Community Reuse Organization of East Tennessee, the release said.

RSI President Staci Ferguson said she was honored by the SBA award.

“We appreciate the U.S. Small Business Administration recognizing RSI with this award,” Ferguson said. “It’s all a result of our employees who commit, every day, to work safely, work hard, and provide innovative responses to our customer’s needs. We also want to thank everyone at UCOR for giving us the opportunity to prove ourselves as we work together to clean up the DOE Oak Ridge Reservation.”

RSI is an employee-owned, small business headquartered in Oak Ridge, with offices in Oak Ridge and Portsmouth, Ohio. The company offers services focused on environmental cleanup and beneficial site reuse, the press release said.
