James David Brock

James David Brock, age 63, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 5, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Brock was born Jan. 14, 1950, in Oliver Springs. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Before his retirement, he was employed as a field supervisor for Kesterson Construction Company. James was a motorcycle enthusiast. He also enjoyed restoring antique autos, boating, and most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.

He loved his country and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. While serving he received several medals, ribbons, citations, and commendations, including expert marksmanship (M16).

David was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Brock and Jeanette Johnson Brock.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Hawn Brock; by a daughter, Melissa “Missy” Large and husband Steve; and by granddaughters, Jessie Coker and Allison Thacker, all of Oliver Springs.

He is also survived by brothers, George “Bobby” Brock and wife Jan, of Harriman, and Don Brock and wife Sandy, of Rockwood; and by sisters, Pat Humphrey and husband Vaughn, of the Coalhill Community, Sandy Kimblin and husband Gene, of Harriman, and Nancy Johnson and husband David, of Rockwood. Additionally, he has a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 8, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial and graveside services with full military honors will be held Sunday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at the Orchard View Cemetery in Oliver Springs.
