Mary Prater Stout

Mary Prater Stout, 88, of Nashville, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, May 22, at Trevecca Nazarene Health Care Center in Nashville.

She was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Knoxville to Dr. Hugh Blair and Netta Butler Prater, who predeceased her.

She married Fred Walter Stout, Jr. on Aug. 27, 1949, and they moved to Oak Ridge in 1954. They were longtime and very active members of First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge.

Fred passed away Nov. 25, 1993. Mary continued to live in Oak Ridge until 2002, when she moved to Nashville.

Mary was also predeceased by her sister Georgia P. Hackney; brother-in-laws Darwin Stout, Richard Stout, and Robert Simmons; and sister-in-law Edith Stout Kiser.

She is survived by her four children, Fred W. Stout III and wife Vickie of Oak Ridge, Paula Stout of Knoxville, Karen and Timothy Fox of Nashville, and Darwin and Wendy Stout of Maple Valley, Wash.; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Fox of Seattle, Thomas and Marissa Fox of Ft. Benning, Ga., Samuel and Sydney Stout of Maple Valley. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Kathleen Simmons and Caroline Stout of Pigeon Forge; and nieces Judy Corr (James) and Janie Fullwood (Danny) of Atlanta.

The family received friends at First Presbyterian Church, 1051 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, with a service following at 2:30 p.m. at the church. Sharon Youngs, minister of FPC, officiated. The burial was at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 27, at Pierce Cemetery, Evensville, (Rhea County), Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to First Presbyterian Church.
