Roane State Community College’s Continuing Healthcare Education Department is accepting sign-ups for its Wilderness First Responder course May 13-20.

The Wilderness First Responder, held at Camp Wesley Woods in Townsend, provides extensive training in handling medical emergencies in the wilderness. The class is designed for those who operate extensively in the outdoors, such as outdoors enthusiasts, wilderness guides, environmental educators, and missionaries.

The 80-hour course includes training in anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, environmental medicine and wilderness rescue.

The curriculum meets the Tennessee EMS standards and national standards for first responder training while focusing on the special situations that may develop in the wilderness. Participants will be eligible for national registry and the Tennessee state testing upon completion of the program. The course fee is $650, which includes books, lodging, and food.

A refresher course for trained wilderness first responders will be held May 16-18, and the fee is $165.

For more information or to register, visit www.campwesleywoods.com or call (865) 448-2246.
