Charles Meredith Patterson

Charles Meredith Patterson, age 76, a resident of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 21, at Methodist Medical Center.

Mr. Patterson was born Oct. 31, 1936, in Anderson County. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Charles was a faithful Christian and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Before his retirement, he was employed as a bookkeeper at A&P Retail Grocery in Oak Ridge from 1953 to 1999. His hobbies included square dancing and watching UT Athletics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Geneva Pride Patterson, and by a sister Ethel Morgan.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bettye Carlyne Patterson; by daughters, Donna Presley of Knoxville and Kathy Rowley and husband Chris, of Knoxville; by a granddaughter, Tammy Gann and husband Steve, of Clinton; and by three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Taylor, and Rylee Gann.

He is also survived by sisters, Edna McClure of Oak Ridge, Faye Meeks of Kingston, Mary Bunch of Oliver Springs, and Sue Daniels and husband Herman of Oliver Springs; and by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 24, between 12 and 2 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Garvan Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Building Fund, 115 Old Hen Valley Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
