June Mildred Boone

June Mildred Boone, age 84, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, passed in peace Thursday, April 4, at home with family.

June was born in Oak Hill, W.V., in 1928 and moved to Oak Ridge with her family in 1943. She graduated in 1946 from Oak Ridge High School.

June was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. As a member of the East Tennessee Writer’s Group, she published articles in children’s magazines, newspapers, and Oak Ridge history books, winning awards with her short stories, plays, and articles. In her later years, she enjoyed gardening and reading.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Daniel Boone; parents, Augustus and Flossie Hughart; sister, Betty Hughart; sister Nancy Franklin; and brother A.D. Hughart.

She is survived by daughter, Sherri Boone; sons, Scott Boone and wife Lisa, and David Boone and wife Kay; grandchildren, Matt Boone, Jennifer Boone, Lisa Boone, Kris Boone and wife Amy, Ben Hendricks, and Jim Hendricks; great-grandchildren, Rylee Hughes, Nicole, Madison and McKenzie Boone; and brother Earnest Hughart and wife Faye.

She is also survived by her special friends from Seniors Helping Seniors, who helped her enjoy the final years of her life and Covenant Hospice and support group: It’s All About You.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, April 7, at 4 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jenny Kauffman officiating. Weatherford Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements. An online guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
