Severe thunderstorms are expected across East Tennessee through this evening, with damaging winds and large hail possible.
Localized flooding and isolated tornadoes are also possible, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.
The forecast for Oak Ridge calls for showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after midnight.
“Some storms could be severe, with large hail, hail, damaging winds, gusty winds, and heavy rain,” the forecast said.
The low tonight is expected to be around 53. There is a 100 percent chance of precipitation.
The chance of rain tapers off to 40 percent before 9 a.m. Friday. Friday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 68.
The Weather Service said a powerful storm system is bringing hazardous weather to the central and eastern United States. The conditions include winter weather over parts of the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes and severe thunderstorms for much of the Southeast.
