Billy Gene Toney, age 70, a resident of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, April 9, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center.

Billy was born Nov. 1, 1942 in Knoxville. He was a lifelong resident of this area.

Mr. Toney served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. While serving, he received several medals, citations, and ribbons.

Before his retirement, he was employed as an over-the-road truck driver. He enjoyed outdoor activities, including hunting and fishing.

He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church, and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Mr. Toney was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Marion and Reba Norman Toney, and by a brother, Joseph Marion Toney II.

Billy is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Norton Toney of Knoxville; by daughters, LeAne Hackney and husband Gene, of Knoxville, and Elaine Walker and husband John of Clinton; by a son Eric Toney and wife Cathy, of Clinton; by grandchildren, Amanda Hackney Hill and husband Shane, Matthew Hackney, Alex, Andrew, Aaron, Anthony, and Ayden Walker, Jake and Katie Anne Toney; and by a great-grandchild, Addison Grace Hill.

He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Hunter of Knoxville and Nancy Wallace of Smyrna, Ga.; and by several friends and extended family members.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 13, between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. at Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 12 p.m. at the Wallace Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Kent Williams officiating. Complete military honors will follow the funeral at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Eric Toney, 321 Walnut Valley, Clinton, TN 37716.
