A change in Tennessee law now requires students to turn five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2013, to enroll in kindergarten this fall, but Oak Ridge Schools is taking applications for early enrollment.
The applications will be accepted through Friday, March 29. This will be the beginning of a two-part registration process that will be completed just prior to school starting for the 2013–2014 school year, a press release said.
“If you have a child who will be five years old on or before Sept. 30, 2013, and you feel your child is emotionally and academically ready to start kindergarten early, you may pick up an early registration form the week of pre-registration from the school in the district of your residence or from Pupil Services located in the School Administration Building on New York Avenue,” the press release said. “Applications will also be available online during this time period.”
Information from the early enrollment form should be completed and returned to the elementary school your child is zoned to attend by March 29. Parents are reminded that this is a two-part process, the press release said.
“Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be notified of the date and time for your child to be screened,” it said. “Final decision for early admittance to kindergarten will be decided by the superintendent of schools.
