DOE, ORNL to celebrate carbon fiber facility, announce manufacturing initiative

Officials from the U.S. Department of Energy and Oak Ridge National Laboratory will celebrate a unique carbon fiber facility on Tuesday morning.

DOE will also announce a new U.S. manufacturing initiative during the ceremony at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Carbon Fiber Technology Facility at Horizon Center Business Park in west Oak Ridge.

Officials scheduled to attend include Gov. Bill Haslam, U.S. Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy David Danielson, ORNL Director Thom Mason, U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, along with industry representatives.

“As the first of its kind in the United States, this facility will help make sure the United States is a magnet for manufacturing jobs—supporting American innovation in next generation materials for automotive, clean energy, and aerospace industries,” a press release said.

It said Danielson will announce the start of a new U.S. manufacturing initiative that brings together U.S. businesses, communities, universities, and government to maintain American leadership in the global race for clean energy technologies and boost job creation and economic growth across the entire manufacturing supply chain.
