Benjamin Park Birdwell

Dr. Benjamin Park Birdwell, 33, died on Tuesday, March 19, from injuries resulting from a tragic automobile accident.

Ben was a clinical psychologist practicing in Cleveland, Tenn. Ben graduated from the Christian Academy of Knoxville and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee. He then attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., where he received master’s degrees in both psychology and theology. Upon receiving his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Fuller, he joined an established group practice in Cleveland. His counseling touched many lives.

Ben leaves his wife and the love of his life, Melissa McAmis Birdwell, and four beautiful children: Jack Austin, 15, Samuel Park, 12, Abigail Susannah, 8, and Sadie Caroline, 3, of Cleveland.

He is survived by his parents, G.R. and Jewel Birdwell of Clinton; brothers, Matt and Zac Birdwell of Clinton; sister, Trina Harrell of Knoxville; and grandparents, Howard and Corene McMillen of Clinton. Ben was also the dearly loved son-in-law of Jack and Carol McAmis of Knoxville and Oak Ridge, and brother-in-law of Allison and Will Doyle of Knoxville.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 22, from 6–8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. with John Stone officiating.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be sent for Ben and Melissa’s children to Scholars Edge, c/o Paul Whitmire, H.D. Vest Investment Securities, 675 Emory Valley Rd., Suite B., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
