Oak Ridge Boys Club alumni have kickoff party Friday

The Oak Ridge Boys Club Alumni Association has their annual membership drive and kickoff party at Lincoln’s Sports Grille at 7 p.m. Friday.

The alumni have been an essential part of helping the local Boys and Girls Club of Oak Ridge during the last four decades, with recent efforts including the purchase of a 15-passenger van for transporting children to the club from school, a press release said.

“Friday is going to be a great night with SEC tournament games on the jumbo screen along with appetizers and beverages while they last,” said Alumni President Aaron Wells.

The group will be drawing names for prizes and will also be presenting an award created last year in honor of club legend L.A. Hahn. The Alumni Association will also have a brief business meeting, where they will elect new officers and vote on any upcoming business for the new calendar year, the press release said.

“This is a new era for the alumni as we will be bringing up the acceptance of female alumni members before the body for the first time in the group’s history,” Wells said. “It is our goal to increase our membership to better serve the needs of the Oak Ridge club and have a positive impact on as many children as possible in our community.”

Along with the kickoff party, the alumni are also preparing for the annual Lawrence Hahn Golf Tournament, which will take place on June 1 at the Oak Ridge Country Club. The tournament is one of the premier events in the region and is expected to fill up fast, the press release said.

It said everyone is encouraged to attend this Friday night regardless of any prior affiliation with the Boys and Girls Club.

“It will be a great night with fun to be had by all in attendance,” the release said.

For more information on the kickoff or the golf tournament, call Wells at (865) 898-7471 or send him an e-mail at aaronwellsoakridge@gmail.com.
