Travis Wilson Rather, age 31, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, at Methodist Medical Center.
Mr. Rather was born April 22, 1981, in Oak Ridge. He was a lifelong resident of this area.
Travis was an expert marksman who enjoyed deer hunting with his father. He also enjoyed golfing. He was an electrician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #270. He was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Lee Rather; by his step-grandfather, Ellis Patterson; and by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Henley.
Travis is survived by his wife, Angela Rather; by his mother, Mechelle Rather, of Oliver Springs; by a sister, Ashley Rhyne and husband Joseph of Corryton; by a niece, Josephine Kennedy Rhyne; by grandparents, Don and Ann Rather of Oliver Springs; and grandmother, Margaret Patterson of Oliver Springs.
He is also survived by several cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and special friends, including his fellow union members at I.B.E.W. in Oak Ridge.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 26, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Charley Johnson and Rev. Thomas Vananda officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at the New Fairview Cemetery in Oliver Springs.
