Traditional Irish Arts of Knoxville has organized a weekend of Irish music, culture, and fun at the Grove Theater in Oak Ridge and Boyd’s Jig and Reel in Knoxville, and it starts today.
It’s the 5th Annual Tune Junkie Weekend, and it will feature workshops, sessions, and a showcase concert.
The weekend kicks off this evening with an open house and staff session at the Historic Grover Theater. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the session begins at 7 p.m., a press release said.
“Come meet the teachers, sign up for classes, purchase concert tickets, and listen to some lively tunes and songs,†the press release said.
Workshops on fiddle, song, bodhran, guitar, flute, Irish step dance, and more will be offered Saturday, the release said. After the workshops, the slow session will give students a chance to practice the skills they learned in class.
“Then, catch the storytelling of Dr. Joseph Sobol of Jonesboro, Tenn.,†the release said.
The Historic Grove Theater will also be the setting for the evening concert at 7 p.m. featuring performances from some of the finest Irish musicians and bands in the Southeast. Performers include Red Wellies, Joseph Sobol, Four Leaf Peat, among others. An after-concert session will be held in the lobby.
The weekend winds up on Sunday with an early afternoon farewell session at Boyd’s Jig and Reel in The Old City in downtown Knoxville, the release said.
