Edwin Harold Massey

Edwin Harold Massey, age 74, formerly of Oak Ridge, died Jan. 17 at the Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette, La.

He was born June 26, 1938, in Cookeville, the son of Charles F. and Lindsey Apple Massey.

Mr. Massey was a 1956 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of New Life Church of the Nazarene. He was also an avid sports fan, and friends and family called him a “walking sport encyclopedia.”

He was a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, in which he lost his home and most of his possessions.

He is survived by son, Stanley Massey, and daughter, Sharon Massey, and their mother, Marilyn Massey, all of Calvary, Alberta, Canada; brother, E. M. Massey, and sister, Sibyl Lenderman, and her husband Stowe; and several nieces and nephews, all of the Knoxville area.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Sherry Lenderman officiating.

The graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Clinton on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m.
