Mary Ruth Prater Holder

Mary Ruth Prater Holder, age 74, a resident of Powell, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Park West Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mrs. Holder was born Oct. 10, 1938, in Roane County. She moved to Powell in 1969.

Mary Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Lake City.

She retired from Allied Chemical as a seamstress following 17 years of employment.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lema Prater, and by brothers, Charles and Marvin Prater.

She is survived by her husband, Willie Edward Holder of Powell; by sons, Edward Lee Holder of Claxton and Wesley Allen Holder of Powell; by a daughter, Aletha Babb and husband Ralph of Knoxville; by grandchildren, Dustin Babb and wife Melissa, Randy Babb, Dillon Holder and Jackson Holder; and by great-grandchildren, Riley and Madison Babb.

She is also survived by a sister, Brenda Tinnell and husband Wayne of Clinton; by brothers, Paul Prater and wife Becky of Wartburg; Bo Prater and wife Danette of Oliver Springs; and by several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 17, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mitchell Wilson and Rev. Kenneth Bean officiating.

Burial and graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
