A reported cut in a fiber optic cable between Knoxville and Chattanooga has knocked out telephone service and most Internet connections at the Anderson County Courthouse in Clinton.
Workers are unable to call from the building, and residents are unable to call in, said Leean Tupper, administrative assistant to Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank.
“We apologize, but we’re waiting on our phone provider to fix the problem,” Tupper said early Wednesday afternoon.
The company has not given the county an estimate of when the problem would be fixed, Tupper said.
Anderson County workers learned of the outage this morning. Tupper said the courthouse is still open.
WYSH Radio in Clinton reported that the outage also affected all of Clinton City Hall. However, it did not interrupt 911 service to the county or the city, the radio station said.
Tupper said the outage apparently affected a wide area.
