A Knoxville man remained jailed on aggravated kidnapping and domestic assault charges Friday, accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend after she refused to make Kool-Aid, taking her keys and cell phone, and pushing a couch in front of a door, authorities said.

Robert Joseph Atkins, 31, allegedly left the home on Mooncrest Lane in Claxton with the victim’s three-month-old son after he let her go next door to get him a cigarette, Anderson County court records said. The victim called the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department from the neighbor’s house.

Atkins had allegedly come to the home at about 1:30 a.m. Monday and refused to leave, the court records said. The victim, who is the custodial parent, said she unsuccessfully tried to sneak out a bedroom window at one point, the records said.

Anderson County Deputy Charles Relford said the victim had a swollen eye and redness and bruised skin where she alleged Atkins had hit her.

Atkins was found hiding in the bathroom of a nearby apartment on Old Edgemoor Lane.

In addition to aggravated kidnapping and domestic assault, he has also been charged with violation of a protection order and custodial interference. His bond has been set at $300,000.

Atkins has a court hearing scheduled for Dec. 20.
