Burglary, interrrupted: Armed son confronts man in parents’ home

After spotting a strange vehicle in his parents’ driveway Thursday, the son of an Andersonville Highway couple armed himself with his father’s shotgun and confronted and detained a burglar inside the home, authorities said Friday.

The son detained the suspect until deputies arrived, Anderson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Lucas said in a Friday news release.

The alleged burglar, Christopher Shane Pack, 29, of Knoxville, was charged with aggravated burglary, property theft, and possession of drugs and burglary tools, the release said.

The son, John Ryan Sharp of Andersonville, told Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputy Wiley A. Maloney that the strange vehicle was still running in his parents’ driveway when he pulled in to check the home. Sharp also noticed that the rear door of the house had been forced open, an incident report said.

Sharp allegedly heard Pack upstairs and saw him remove blue latex gloves as he came down stairs from the second floor, the report said.

Sharp allowed Pack to use the bathroom while he called 911. Pack was in the bathroom when Anderson County deputies arrived, the report said.

Sharp’s father told officers that he had been given roxycodone after a surgery four years ago. The pill bottle was found in the bathroom used by Pack, the report said. It had allegedly been moved from an upstairs bedroom and was missing seven tablets.

Anderson County deputies said Pack had a pry bar, glass punch, screwdriver, chisel, latex and leather gloves, and other burglary tools.

Pack is being held in the Anderson County Detention Facility in Clinton, and his bond hasn’t been set yet, pending arraignment, Lucas said.

The Sheriff’s Department said Pack had been wanted on outstanding warrants in three counties. Knox County had three warrants, one for aggravated burglary and two for thefts. Sevier County had one for aggravated burglary, and Blount County had a warrant for a probation violation where the original charge was theft, the release said.

Lucas said investigators are working to see if Pack may be involved in other burglaries.
