The Clinton City Council on Monday approved a five-year lease with Roane State Community College on the old National Guard Armory, which will allow the school to use the facility as an “Industrial Training Center.”
The Council also agreed to sell almost 10 acres of land to Techmer PM, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.
The company will buy 9.8 acres of the former Tennessee Valley Authority Nursery tract that adjoins the rear of its property next to the Clinch River. The purchase will allow Techmer PM the flexibility for the physical expansion of its plant as well as a planned corporate training center without displacing its current parking lot, WYSH said.
The company will pay the city about $29,400—or $3,000 per acre—for the land and the agreement also calls for the city to deed Quality Circle to the company to limit access to the rear of their property, WYSH said.
Officials with the company say they have had some problems with minor cases of vandalism and theft over the years. Techmer PM has expanded its Clinton facility five times since it was originally built in 1988. In just the past five years, Techmer has spent more than $15 million on improvements at its Clinton plant.
