Nancy Jane Cody Bailey

Nancy Jane Cody Bailey, age 76, of Oak Ridge, passed away peacefully, Friday, Oct. 12, surround by her family.

She was born January 7, 1936, in Raleigh, N.C.

She received a bachelor’s degree at Mt. St. Mary’s College, where she became a Dominican Sister at Newburgh, N.Y. She did graduate study at Columbia University in New York City and taught elementary school for 17 years.

Later, she married Harry R. Bailey in 1973. They resided in Pensacola and Panama City, Fla.; Dothan, Ala.; and Coalfield.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and Nana. Mrs. Bailey was a substitute teacher in Morgan County and worked as a caregiver for many seniors for over 15 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served as a Eucharist minister and guild member.

Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Bailey, in 1993.

She is survived by son, Richard Daniel Bailey and his wife Dell and grandson Skylar of Knoxville; daughter, Veronica Ann Greear and husband Jake and grandchildren Amelia and Ben of Oak Ridge; and sister, Joan Petrowski of New York.

The family received friends on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 5–7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. A Rosary followed at 7 p.m.

The memorial mass will be held on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Woods officiating.

The family asks that any memorials be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
