George M. Maestas

George M. Maestas, 75, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, Sept. 22, at home surrounded by loving family members.

George was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Oak Ridge.

Born in El Rito, N.M., on Dec. 27, 1936, George was the son of Pete and Elena Vigil Maestas.

He retired from Bechtel Jacobs in 1998 as an industrial hygienist.

George was a veteran of the United States Army and a 4th Degree Member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Father McRedmond, Council 3175. He was also a Charter Member of Pope John Paul II 4th Degree Assembly 2920, and was also a Double Star Council Winner.

George was the beloved husband of Betty Ann (Elizabeth) Trujillo Maestas, whom he married June 7, 1969, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was the beloved father of three children: Paul Maestas and his wife, Christie (Forest Duncan Jr.-Huntsville, Tenn.) of Clinton; Rebecca and her husband Kevin Fosberry of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and James Maestas and his wife Jennifer of James Island, S.C.

He is survived by four grandchildren: Bradley Long, Kevin Michael Fosberry, Helena Elizabeth Fosberry, and Ella Maestas. He is also survived by three brothers: Gilbert Maestas and his wife Adela of Los Lunas, N.M.; Rudy Maestas and his wife Dorain of El Rito, N.M.; and Eddie Maestas and his wife Connie of Chimayo, N.M.

He considered his cousins Tony Maestas, Sharon (Jerry) McPolin, and Gordon, Alice, and Dave Maestas extended siblings; and their parents, Aunt Mary and Uncle Abe, second parents.

George’s family will receive friends at Weatherford Mortuary from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, with a rosary at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be Friday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Dustin Collins as Celebrant accompanied by Fr. Bede Aboh. Interment to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard Honor Guard.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, Elementary Education at 327 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
