A handful of classes that offer swimming lessons and water exercise start in Oak Ridge in September.

The classes include the Oak Ridge City Aquatics swim team, Aqua Power, water exercise, and fall swimming lessons.

Here is more information on the classes, provide by the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department:

ORCA Swim Team starts Sept. 4

The ORCA swim team will start its next session on Sept. 4. ORCA is an aquatic recreational workout and swimming activity for children ages 5-18.

Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards without help to participate. A swim test will be given the first day.

ORCA meets from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Oak Ridge Civic Center swimming pool.

The team fee is $65 per swimmer, and there is a non-resident fee of $10 when applicable. Enrollment is limited.

Registration will be held at the Oak Ridge Civic Center front desk on the first day. Swimmers must have a signed release and fees paid to participate. Swimmers who do not meet the swim test will be encouraged to take further lessons, and their fees will be refunded.

The session goes through Nov. 15, but the team will not meet during Oak Ridge Schools’ fall break on Oct. 23 and Oct 25.

For more information, call the Recreation and Parks Department at (865) 425-3450 or visit the website at www.orrecparks.org.

Aqua Power starts Sept. 10

A city-organized aquatic exercise program called Aqua Power starts for the fall on Sept. 10.

The course instructor is Janice Greenwood. Greenwood holds numerous certifications in exercise programs. This program is geared toward participants who wish to receive a workout in the water; individuals will be encouraged to work at their own pace and participants do not have to be able to swim or get their hair wet.

Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The fee is $42 for a six-week session or $5 per class. The fall session will start Sept. 10 and end Oct. 17.

This is a great opportunity to explore the benefits of exercising in water without having to make a long-term commitment, a city press release said.

You may register at the Civic Center Front Desk before each class. For more information, call (865) 425-3450 or visit the webpage at www.orrecparks.org.

Water exercise starts Sept. 10

The fall water exercise session also starts Sept. 10. It runs through Oct. 18.

The classes run in six-week sessions. The afternoon class will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. The morning class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The fee is $37.50 for the six-week session (may attend mornings and afternoons) or $3.25, per class. There is also a non-resident fee of $20 for those who do not live in Oak Ridge.

For more information, call the Recreation and Parks Department at (865) 425-3450 or visit the website at www.orrecparks.org.

Fall swimming lessons start Sept. 11

The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department fall swimming lessons will start Sept. 11 and 13. Classes run for eight weeks, but will not meet Oct. 23 and 25 during Oak Ridge Schools fall break.

These classes include preschool aquatics (for children to start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water while separate from their parents), parent-child (for children six months to three years with their parent), and additional levels of 1-4. There are eight classes, and each is 30 minutes long.

The fee is $65, with a $10 non-resident fee for children who live outside Oak Ridge. Registration is available at the Civic Center front desk, with payment due at the time of registration. Cash and checks are accepted, and enrollment is limited.

For more information, call the Recreation and Parks Department at (865) 425-3450 or visit the website at www.orrecparks.org.
