Young-Williams offers special spay, neuter rate for pit bulls

Young-Williams Animal Center in Knoxville is offering a special rate to spay or neuter pit bulls during the month of August.

The “Primp Your Pit (Bull)” spay/neuter program will only cost $20 for all pit bull owners, regardless of residency or income requirements, the release said.

Owners who wish to bring their pit bulls in must mention the “Primp Your Pit” promotion when they schedule their appointment, as this program is based on availability.

Many of these dogs end up in shelters because of myths and negative media associated with the breed, and Young-Williams is hoping to help prevent this, according to the release. In Knox County alone, two out of three pit bulls entering Young-Williams Animal Shelter will be euthanized, the release said.

“The ‘Primp Your Pit’ promotion helps you and your dog,” said Dr. Lisa Chassy, medical director at Young-Williams Animal Center. “Spaying or neutering a pet is the most effective thing a pet parent can do to prevent unwanted litters and ensure their pet lives a long, happy life.”

The American Veterinary Medical Association endorses spaying and neutering puppies as young as eight to 10 weeks old, and research shows that the procedure can improve the behavior and health of the pet, including reducing the risk of certain reproductive cancers and infections, said the release.

Please visit young-williams.org or call (865) 215-6677 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

    Dear Dawn,
Thanks for getting the word out about our “pit program!” Someone emailed me there is a typo in the first sentence, “Young-Williams Animal Center in Knoville is offering a special rate to spay or neuter pit bulls during the month of August,” in which the “X” was omitted from “Knoxville”
    thanks,
    Xan
