The Y-12 National Security Complex has received awards for its publications from an East Tennessee public relations group and a technical communications organization.

Y-12 received nine awards—including four first-place honors—during the annual V Awards gala held by the Volunteer Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, a B&W Y-12 press release said.

The 2011 issues of the Y-12 Report, Y-12’s triannual magazine, won first place in government or public service magazines and periodicals, the release said.

The issues of the 2011 Y-12 Times, Y-12’s monthly newsletter for employees and friends, took first place in government or public service newsletters.

Taking first place in “other” writing was the article “Experience Counts,” which appeared in the winter 2011 issue of the Y-12 Report and highlights contributions of five workers who have more than 220 years of combined company service.

First place in the collaterals/posters category went to the Y-12 Firefighter Poster Series, created to spotlight National Fire Safety Month and promote awareness of the capabilities of Y-12’s on-site fire department.

Other awards were bestowed for items such as a sustainability performance brochure, a Y-12 company service awards yearbook, and the Operational Security Awareness Training audio/visual production.

Y-12 also won awards at the recent East Tennessee Chapter of the Society of Technical Communication awards banquet.

The site won the Distinguished Technical Communication award, STC–ETC’s top honor, for the Haul Road and Overpass Construction poster, the press release said. The poster delineates the best way to manage traffic during the upcoming 10-year Uranium Processing Facility construction period.

Y-12 received 13 more awards from STC–ETC, including excellence awards for the Y-12 Report, the Y-12 Times, and Digital Signature training material. The latter is an in-house Web-based interactive tutorial for accelerating the use of digital signatures as replacements for handwritten signatures in various work processes.

Additional winning items included the Operational Security Awareness Training audio/visual production and an Environmental Management calendar.
