Restoration Services named woman-owned small business of year

The U.S. Department of Energy has recognized Restoration Services Inc. of Oak Ridge as its woman-owned small business of the year, a press release said.

The award recognizes the exceptional performance throughout DOE sites of a woman-owned small business that directly contributes to the accomplishments of core DOE mission objectives and requirements, the press release said.

President Staci Ferguson accepted the award at the DOE Small Business Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C.

“RSI appreciates the Department of Energy for recognizing us with this award,” Ferguson said in the release, distributed by UCOR, DOE’s cleanup contractor in Oak Ridge. “Our success is a result of employees who make a commitment to safety, responsiveness, and innovation, every day. We also want to express a thank-you to UCOR for giving us the opportunity to prove ourselves as we work together to transform the landscape at the East Tennessee Technology Park.”

RSI is a subcontractor to URS-CH2M Oak Ridge LLC, or UCOR, and has supported the DOE Environmental Management cleanup mission in Oak Ridge, Portsmouth, and Paducah, the release said.

In support of UCOR, RSI completed facility characterization work that enabled the accelerated demolition of the massive K-25 building. RSI also developed and implemented a centralized approach to characterization that saves the EM program in Oak Ridge about $1.3 million each year, the release said.

It said RSI is also committed to DOE’s Asset Revitalization Initiative for ETTP, recently installing a solar farm at the front of the site on land purchased from the Community Reuse Organization of East Tennessee. RSI designed, installed, and operates the 200-kilowatt photovoltaic solar array, and power generated is being sold to the Tennessee Valley Authority through the City of Oak Ridge Electric Department.

RSI hopes that this is the first of many similar developments in their Brownfields to Brightfields initiative, the release said.

UCOR President and Project Manager Leo Sain offered his congratulations to the company.

“RSI is a valued member of our team, and we were pleased to nominate them for this award,” Sain said. “RSI has great leadership and skilled workers who safely perform complex jobs at a high level.”

I am a lesbian Cherokee Gulf War veteran in a wheelchair. I own the Heglian Di Electric company. What are my chances of getting a DOE contract?
