As part of the Secret City Festival, Oak Ridge Revitalization Effort will present a free reading of Oak Ridge playwright Leslie Agron’s new play “Let Them Eat Cupcakes!”

The reading will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Ridge Public Library Auditorium.

“This hard-hitting drama spins a buddy story between a homeless Viet Nam War veteran and a disabled Iraq War veteran,” Agron said in an e-mail. “The slice-of-life drama is entirely set in a clandestine bivouac in a remote glade of an urban park—perhaps near you.

“This unlikely grouping of five characters is one we would hardly expect to agree about conditions in America, and they do not—often somewhat humorously,” Agron said. “Their disagreement however, gives voice to what often goes unsaid in the partisan diatribes called debates in this decade.”

ORRE is using this production to sample interest in producing a New Play Festival in 2013 and beyond.
