Two employees at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge have been honored by the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Defense Programs.

The two workers, Harry Peters from the Y-12 Site Office and Kathy Bracic of B&W Y-12’s Facility Engineering Organization, have been named NNSA DP Employee of the Quarter.

Peters has more than 40 years of experience in nuclear project management related to U.S. Department of Energy and commercial nuclear power programs, a B&W Y-12 press release said. Since 2004, he has served as the Uranium Processing Facility director, ensuring that facility risks are considered, milestones achieved, budget issues addressed, and transition expectations surpassed.

Peters and his UPF project team recently fulfilled, within 30 days, a request to provide an alternative UPF project plan in light of Fiscal Year 2013 budget considerations.

A Y-12 employee since 1991, Bracic recently served as project engineer on the Nondestructive Laser Gas Sampling project, for which NNSA had initiated a “Code Blue,” its equivalent of an emergency call for help. Bracic led the successful completion of engineering activities and related schedule milestones associated with NDLGS process development, work area and facility modifications, and readiness activities.

She also served as project engineer of the Life Certification Ovens/Manifolds project, assisting with completion of testing and readiness activities.

B&W Y-12, a limited liability enterprise of The Babcock and Wilcox Company and Bechtel National Inc., operates the Y-12 National Security Complex for the NNSA.
