The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is currently accepting applications for board members for the 2012-2013 school year. Board members will be selected at the July 9 City Council meeting.

Sixteen applicants will be confirmed and appointed by City Council to serve a one-year term of office that will start on August 1. To be considered, applicants must be residents of Oak Ridge and entering grade levels 8th through 12th.

Participation on the YAB requires attendance at bi-monthly meetings on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m., as well as at special events that are held throughout the year.

Interested students are encouraged to fill out the on-line application which is now available on the City Clerk’s departmental website or at http://tiny.cc/yab. Paper applications are available in the guidance offices at both middle schools, the Student Affairs Office at the high school, and at the front desk of the Civic Center. All applications are due on Friday, June 1, by 5:00 p.m.

The purpose of the YAB is to serve as a liaison between Council and the youth of the community on issues affecting youth, encouraging the positive growth and development of youth by involving them in social, cultural, recreational, and other drug- and alcohol-free activities.

For more information, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at (865) 425-3411 or Diana Stanley, City Clerk, at (865) 425-3411 or email her at dstanley@cortn.org.
