A Knoxville woman was arrested Thursday on charges she hit a Powell man trying to repossess a car at McDonald’s in Oak Ridge in December 2011.

Ebony Sharee Burton, 30, remained jailed in the Anderson County Detention Facility on Friday evening. She has been charged with aggravated assault.

Burton is accused of hitting Richard Collins of Powell at the McDonald’s on South Illinois Avenue on Dec. 5, 2011. Collins told police then that he had agreed to allow Burton to get some personal items out of her car when she instead started it and backed it out of a parking space, almost hitting him.

After she had backed up, Collins was directly in front of the vehicle, and he told Oak Ridge Police Officer John Criswell he had “no time to move before Burton accelerated toward him.

“Collins stated that the vehicle struck him, and he ended up on the hood of the vehicle and was eventually thrown off onto the ground after approximately 20 feet,” Criswell wrote in a court affidavit.

When police arrived, Collins complained of pain at the back of his head and on his right hand.

The affidavit said Collins was able to track the car to Knoxville, where the Knoxville Police Department found it, but Burton had not been located.
