ORPD hosts mid-April seminar on preventing tragedy
The Oak Ridge Police Department will host a mid-April seminar on preventing tragedies. The seminar is scheduled four months after the December massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
“The recent tragedy in Newtown, Conn., has stimulated a broad nationwide discussion aimed at preventing future such events,” a city press release said. “This seminar is designed to make citizens aware of possible warning signs of violent behavior and a plan for how to alert the proper agency. Topics of discussion will be mental and emotional health, precautions, and solutions.”
The release said residents, employers, and employees are encouraged to attend. The seminar is titled “Preventing Tragedy: A Community United.” It’s scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 15, at New Hope Center at the Y-12 National Security Complex. [Read more…]
Anderson Chamber features seminar on tablets in business
The Anderson County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a Wednesday seminar on integrating tablets into businesses.
Led by Tracy Hibben, the seminar is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. at the Chamber office at 245 N. Main St. in Clinton.
A press release said two out of three small business owners plan to use tablets in their business in 2013. The question most have is: how?
Anderson Chamber hosts seminar on tax law changes
A Feb. 6 seminar at the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce will focus on the 2012 American Relief Act and tax law changes.
The seminar will be presented by J.D. Schlandt, a certified public accountant.
The seminar is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Chamber office. You can join the “Chamber Chatroom lunch bunch” from 11:30 a.m. to  noon in an opportunity to network and establish new relationships, a press release said.
Seminar on contracting certifications for women-owned small businesses
A Jan. 15 seminar at the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce will address government contracting certifications for women-owned businesses.
The free seminar has been organized by the Tennessee Small Business Development Center, and the program will be presented by the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services.
Previous government contracting experience or attendance in a government contracting seminar is strongly encouraged, a press release said.
Wednesday seminar covers government contracts
An all-day seminar in Knoxville on Wednesday will cover the basics of government contracts, a press release said.
Laura Davis, president of Strategic Consulting Solutions, is the featured speaker. Seminar topics include contract costs and types, incurred cost submissions, and the Federal Acquisition Regulation.
The seminar is meant to help entrepreneurs and small business owners, and it’s scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Foundry in Knoxville.
