ORPD: Two arrested after crashing stolen truck

Two people were arrested after allegedly crashing a stolen pickup truck in Oak Ridge and trying to run from police Monday afternoon, officers said.

The Oak Ridge Police Department tried to stop the pickup truck on South Illinois Avenue at Tulsa Road at about 1 p.m. Monday, a press release said.

“The driver of the pickup truck began to flee, and officers discontinued the attempted traffic stop,” the press release said.

The pickup truck continued driving at a high rate of speed and crashed into a vehicle at the intersection of South Illinois Avenue at South Rutgers Avenue, the press release said. One tire blew out, and the pickup truck continued driving on the remaining three tires toward Edgemoor Road, the release said.

Two taken to hospital after three-vehicle crash on Edgemoor Road bridge

Two drivers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries after a three-vehicle crash on Edgemoor Road bridge on Friday evening.

The crash was reported on State Route 170 at about 8:45 p.m. Friday, the Oak Ridge Police Department said. The bridge crosses the Clinch River near the Bull Run Fossil Plant.

Pedestrian flown to UT Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after crash

A pedestrian with life-threatening injuries was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville by a LifeStar medical helicopter after a traffic crash in Oak Ridge at about 4:05 a.m. Monday.

The Oak Ridge Police Department received notification of a crash involving a pedestrian on Monday, June 28, on South Illinois Avenue just north of the intersection of East Tulsa Road, the City of Oak Ridge said in a press release. The roadway was closed for a few hours.

Two die in crashes in Anderson County

Two people died in crashes in Anderson County this past weekend. One was a student at Hardin Valley Academy, and the other was a 43-year-old Knoxville woman.

The first crash, which killed the HVA senior, was reported in the Claxton area on Friday night. Seventh Judicial District Attorney General Dave Clark said it was a graduation season tragedy involving some young people who had been celebrating in Knox County.

“Whether they were served alcohol at a commercial establishment is being investigated,” Clark said in a social media post on Saturday.

Clark said it appeared that eight people were riding in a pickup truck when it crashed in the Claxton area on New Henderson Road at Henderson Bend Road.

Marshals catch fugitive after pursuit, injury to deputy

The U.S. Marshals Service has caught a fugitive who was being pursued when an Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hit by a vehicle on Saturday night, sending the deputy to the hospital, the ACSO said.

The fugitive, Jesse Duncan, 38, was captured Tuesday night near Harriman Highway by the U.S. Marshals Service, the ACSO said.

The deputy, Stephen Carroll, has been released from the hospital, and he is “recovering nicely,” the ACSO said.

“He is grateful for all of the thoughts and prayers from everyone,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Duncan had been pursued this weekend by Carroll and others on Tri County Boulevard in Oliver Springs when Carroll was hit by a vehicle, the ACSO said. His leg was broken, and it was repaired during surgery this week.

One person flown to hospital, in critical condition after rollover crash

One person was flown by a medical helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville and is in critical condition after a rollover crash on Laboratory Road near the exit from Home Depot on Tuesday evening.

The crash involved two vehicles, a truck and a car. The truck had rolled over onto its top on the northbound side of the road north of the Home Depot exit. The car was stopped at an angle in the middle of the road at the exit.

A short section of Laboratory Road was closed for hours between Home Depot and Oak Ridge Turnpike as police investigated the crash.

THP report: Child hit by pickup walked into travel lane

The seven-year-old girl hit by a vehicle Wednesday evening had been in the turn lane with two other pedestrians before walking into the eastbound lane of Edgemoor Road and being struck by a pickup truck, according to a preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

No charges have been filed against the driver, and none are pending, the THP said.

The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. Monday at Mooncrest Lane. It was near the Breadbox gas station and convenience store in Claxton.

Oak Ridge man dies in motorcycle crash on Oak Ridge Turnpike

A 66-year-old man died Thursday after police said he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Oak Ridge Turnpike, according to the city.

The Oak Ridge Police Department responded to the crash, which was in front of Oak Ridge High School, at about 6:13 p.m. Thursday. The initial investigation shows that James Lynch lost control of the motorcycle, which then slid on its side for about 50 feet before hitting the back of a small van, the City of Oak Ridge said in a press release.

Lynch later died at Methodist Medical Center.

Witnesses told investigators the sun was in Lynch’s eyes. Investigators also believe speed was a factor, the press release said. No use of drugs or alcohol are suspected.
