Three men indicted in December robbery in Claxton

Three Anderson County men accused of participating in a Claxton robbery in December have been indicted by a grand jury, and they face an Oct. 8 arraignment.

A Claxton woman reported that the three men approached her at about 8 a.m. Dec. 1 at her home on Foust Carney Road, and one of them pointed a handgun at her and took her purse. The purse contained valuable jewelry, car keys, and about $300, court records said. The woman estimated her total loss at more than $28,000.

Affidavits filed by Anderson County Sheriff’s Cpl.  Joshua Cardwell said the three men had plotted the robbery earlier that morning while at the home of Terry Allen Giles, 32, on Wilder Lane in Claxton.

A few hours later, Giles and the other two men—Randall Scott Henderson, 22, of Norris, and Jeffrey Lynn Stotlemyer, 21, of Andersonville—”walked the streets of the neighborhood, looking for someone to commit a robbery against,” the affidavits said.

Court records said Giles wore a face mask and had either a handgun or what appeared to be a “toy gun.” He allegedly grabbed the purse from the woman’s shoulder before she screamed, and the men fled.

They met later back at Giles’ house, the records said. Henderson and Stotelmyer said Giles returned with the victim’s purse and a wallet and money, according to affidavits.

Cardwell said he was able to recover some of the stolen jewelry at two gold-buying stores in Knoxville and from Giles’ wife, who returned it to investigators.

The men have been accused of aggravated robbery and theft of more than $10,000. The grand jury indictments were filed Sept. 18 and made public this week.
