A veteran Anderson County Sheriff’s Department investigator resigned Friday, two days after Knoxville Police arrested him in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery store on Clinton Highway, according to WYSH Radio in Clinton.
Danny Bowie, 51, was arrested on July 25 and charged with public intoxication and possession of a handgun while intoxicated after Knoxville Police responded to a call about a possibly intoxicated person, WYSH said.
Officers reported that Bowie had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled strongly of alcohol when he was questioned, WYSH said. When he went to retrieve his identification, the officer spotted what turned out to be a loaded pistol in the rear pocket of Bowie’s shorts.
Bowie, who had been an 18-year-veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, was released on a $200 bond and will appear in court on Thursday. The Sheriff’s Department says the gun was Bowie’s personal handgun and, before last week’s incident, he had no history of disciplinary or other problems, WYSH said.
