Charles Baxter, age 84, of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, February 18, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.
He was born July 12, 1930, in Sevier County, the son of Creed and Stella Williams Baxter.
Charles served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War era in Greenland.
He retired from Martin Marietta Energy Systems, where he was a production machinist at the Y-12 plant.
He was a longtime member of Robertsville Baptist Church, and he loved being a part of the Men’s Sunday School Class. In addition to his church, he loved his family, the outdoors, bowling, golf, and working crossword puzzles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dwayne Baxter and Kelly Baxter.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Whitson Baxter, with whom he would have celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 12.
He is also survived by daughters, Sharon Baxter Brewer and husband Bill of Knoxville, and Scharla Baxter Kennedy and husband David of Lebanon; grandchildren, April Kennedy Parks and husband Rick of Knoxville, and Cassie Lynn Kennedy of Lebanon; sister, Shirley Baxter Buzaliski and husband Gene of Columbia Station, Ohio; brother, Doyle Baxter and wife Ruth of Lodi, Ohio; sister-in-law, Carolyn Baxter of Pigeon Forge; and several nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in his memory to Robertsville Baptist Church, 251 Robertsville Road, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
The family received friends on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Robertsville Baptist Church, and a memorial service followed at with Rev. Brian Scott officiating.
