Mr. William “Bob†Brooks, age 91, of Coalfield, passed away Monday, November 24, at Ben Atchley Veteran’s Home.
He lived in Coalfield until he was 17 years old, then went to Cleveland, Ohio, to work before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in World War II. He was in the South Pacific for three years.
He married Daisy Kelly, and they lived in Dayton and Miamisburg, Ohio, for 12 years. They moved back to Coalfield, and Bob went into coal surface mining. He retired in 1989.
He was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed square dancing, water skiing, and traveling. He and Daisy traveled through all 50 states and 36 countries, including six continents.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harve and Myrtle Lynebaugh Brooks; wife, Daisy Kelly Brooks; sisters, Ruth Heidle and Irene Neglia; and brother, Howard Brooks.
He is survived by his daughter Cindy and husband Barry of Olive Branch, Mississippi; son, Doug and wife Kathy of Coalfield;Â grandchildren, Kelly McGhee, Clark (Jessica) Brooks, Kerry Brooks, and Bobby and Lynette Davis; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Daisy McGhee, and J.R. and Kira Davis, and Emilee Welch; several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and good friends and neighbors.
Graveside services will be private.
