Cleois Cross, 89, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away at Tennova Hospice in Knoxville on September 5, 2014. Cleois lived for the last several years at Meadowview Assisted Living in Clinton.
He was born to parents George and Pearl Byrd Cross on November 28, 1924, in Scott County.
Cleois was a veteran with the U.S. Army and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory as an engineer. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and enjoyed being a member of the “Flying Boatmen of Knoxville TN” the amateur marine stunt group, the nautical answer to aeronautic shows.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Chlora Woodward Cross (October 6, 2007); brother, Clois Cross of Straight Fork; sisters-in-law, Frances Cross of Straight Fork and Reba Duncan of Huntsville; and brothers-in-law, Clifton Jeffers of Oak Ridge and James Red Gaylor of Nashville.
His survivors include his son, Tony Cross (Lois) of Murray, Kentucky; brother, Murley Joe Cross (Phyllis); sisters, Trula Huddleston and Ruby Sanders, all of LaFollette; sisters-in-law, Georgia Jeffers of Oak Ridge, and Sarah Gaylor of Nashville; brother-in-law, Estel Woodward (Valerie) of Oneida; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 12:30-2 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge, with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. and Pastor Ronnie Arnold of Cedar Hill Baptist Church of LaFollette officiating. The interment followed at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
