James Melton, age 75, of Andersonville, passed away on Friday, April 26, at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center in Andersonville.
He was a devoted grandfather, and he loved to fish. James lived in northwest Indiana for more than 40 years before returning to Tennessee to retire.
James was always willing to lend a helping hand and was heavily involved in the Democratic Party for 30 years. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Methodist Church in Andersonville.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Zee and Reba Melton; daughter, Rebecca Kowalski; and sister, Betty Irwin.
James is survived by his son, David Melton and wife Kim of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; daughter, Christine Melton of Springfield, Ore.; brothers, Clifton Melton of Clinton and Clayton Foust of Andersonville; sisters, Ruth Murphy of Clinton, Barbara Henderson of Clinton, Virginia McCoy of Andersonville, Sue Melton of Andersonville; grandchildren, Airman First Class Melton of McChord Air Force Base in Washington, and Tara Melton of Glendale, Ariz.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
James’s family will receive his friends on Wednesday, May 1, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Jones Mortuary. His interment will follow his visitation at the Norris Memorial Gardens.
Jones Mortuary in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.
