Oak Ridge Community Band plays free Labor Day concert

The Oak Ridge Community Band will play a free Labor Day concert at A.K. Bissell Park.

The show will feature Louis Armstrong tunes, American river songs, several march pieces, a polka, and a unique “Looney Tunes” adaptation of some famous classical songs.

The show, which starts at 7 p.m., is the last summer concert for 2012, a press release said.

The first 300 people to attend will receive a free ticket for admission to any one of the six indoor concerts performed by the Community Band from October through April.

“This is a promotional event to make the public more aware that the Community Band not only performs concerts during the summer months but also presents concerts during the fall and winter months,” the press release said.

The release recommended that people bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor seating.

The Oak Ridge Community Band is directed by Dale Pendley and meets every Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church for rehearsals. Interested area musicians who would like to join the band can call (865) 483-3044 for more information.

Labor Day is Monday, September 3rd. Is that the date of this concert?

      I presume that is correct.
