Juanita Glenn Hamer

Juanita Glenn Hamer, age 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away Friday, June 29, at the Methodist Medical Center.

She was born March 9, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., and was raised by her grandmother, Stella Polk, who precedes her in death.

Mrs. Hamer came to Oak Ridge from the Bronx, N.Y., in 1993. She is a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Oak Ridge and The Joyful Reconcilers. She also served as a volunteer at the Methodist Medical Center.

In addition to her grandmother, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lou Hamer in 1988.

She is survived by son, Michael Glenn Hamer and wife Grace and daughter, Kathleen Lenore Hamer, all of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren, Crystal Tucker and LaVonna Hamer, both of Knoxville, Juanita R. Hamer, Michael Glenn Hamer Jr., Miles Hamer, Heather Pope and Lauren O’Brien, all of Oak Ridge and six great-grandchildren, Louis Pope, Patrick O’Brien, Joseph O’Brien, Daniel O’Brien, Deondre Tucker, and Jaden Tucker.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Moore officiating.

Burial of Mrs. Hamer’s ashes in the Memorial Garden at the church will take place at a later date.

The family asks that any memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, PO Box 11772, Knoxville, TN 37939.
