DOE drafts $17.5M plan to preserve K-25 history

All of the K-25 building would be demolished under a draft agreement issued by the U.S. Department of Energy last week, but a replica equipment building would be erected as part of a plan to honor the history of the massive uranium enrichment plant.

The replica building would have three stories and a basement, and it would display equipment used to enrich uranium through a process called gaseous diffusion.

Anderson County Democrats open headquarters Thursday

The Anderson County Democratic Party officially opens its campaign headquarters from 5:30-7 p.m Thursday. The party will celebrate the opening with hot dogs, chips, and iced beverages, and the public is invited, a press release said.

Seating is limited, so bringing a chair is recommended, the release said.

City makes Municipal Building restrooms ADA-compliant

The city of Oak Ridge started renovating the public restrooms near the Municipal Building Courtroom on Monday to make them compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This work requires the relocation of plumbing fixtures, removal of existing floor tiles, installation of new tile, and paint, a city press release said.

‘Zoo To Do’ on Saturday

Knoxville Zoo is hosting an evening of feasting and festivities on Saturday, June 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“Zoo To Do” is an after-hours event featuring food from different area restaurants and entertainment.

Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and he loved being with his grandchildren. He enjoyed motorcycles, going to the river, where he loved to fish, and spending time in the family’s cabin.

July 4 fireworks at A.K. Bissell Park

The July 4 fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m. Independence Day at A.K. Bissell Park, Oak Ridge Fire Chief Darryl Kerley announced Monday.

Radio host Jack Ryan from Merle 96.7 will broadcast live from the park beginning at 6 p.m. and will end his broadcast with a patriotic musical medley as the fireworks are shot. Listeners can tune their radios to 96.7 Merle FM and enjoy the fireworks.

Before the fireworks begin, the Oak Ridge Community Band will play its annual Fourth of July concert at the park’s pavilion starting at 7:30 p.m.
